Moon Box Quest — Eight-Diagram Tactics
Level required: 70+ Reward: 1 Moon Box Why you want it: the Moon Box is one of the items your class trainer needs to promote you at level 110. (You will also pick up Meteors along the way — handy for the level 100 promotion.)
The Moon Box is hidden inside the Eight-Diagram Tactics, a maze of trial chambers guarded by restless spirits. The maze sends you somewhere at random, so this quest is part skill and part luck — budget some time for it.
Quick summary
- Talk to the Fortuneteller in Twin City — she sends you into the maze.
- Maggie throws you into a random Tactic. Kill the monsters there until one drops a Command Token.
- Talk to the Ghost in that Tactic to be sent back to Maggie.
- Repeat until you hold all six different Command Tokens.
- With all six, Maggie fuses them into a Soul Jade and sends you to the Life Tactic.
- Give the Soul Jade to the Lonely Ghost there — he hands you the Moon Box and sends you home.
Walkthrough
1. Start with the Fortuneteller (Twin City)
Find the Fortuneteller in the south of Twin City (near coordinates 338, 724). You must be level 70 or higher. Choose to enter the tactics and she teleports you into the maze hub, where Maggie is waiting.
Before you go: carry some free bag space and bring potions. The maze monsters are aggressive and around level 70.
2. Maggie sends you into a Tactic
Talk to Maggie and ask her to send you in. She cannot choose where she sends you — you land in one of six Tactics at random:
Peace · Chaos · Deserted · Prosperous · Disturbed · Calmed
When you arrive, the Guardian God standing nearby will tell you which Tactic you are in.
The Death Tactic (about 1 in 20): sometimes Maggie sends you to the Death Tactic instead. There are no tokens here. Talk to the Ghost and he will release you back to the city — you keep any tokens you already have. It is just a wasted trip, so do not panic.
3. Kill monsters for a Command Token
Each Tactic is full of monsters that guard that Tactic's Command Token. Kill them until a token drops (it is not guaranteed every kill, so keep at it).
Each Tactic drops a different token, and you need all six.
4. The Ghost sends you back
Once you are holding the Tactic's token, talk to the Ghost in that Tactic. He uses the token's power to send you back to Maggie at the hub.
5. Repeat until you have all six tokens
Talk to Maggie again and she sends you back into a random Tactic. Because it is random, you will sometimes be sent to a Tactic whose token you already have — just talk to that Tactic's Ghost to pop straight back out and try again. Keep going until you hold all six different tokens.
6. Fuse the tokens and finish in the Life Tactic
When you have all six tokens, talk to Maggie. She fuses them into a Soul Jade and teleports you to the Life Tactic.
There you will meet a Lonely Ghost. Give him the Soul Jade to free his spirit — in gratitude he hands you the Moon Box and sends you home to Twin City.
Take the Moon Box to your class trainer at the Promotion Centre when you are ready for your level 110 promotion.
Tips
- Bag space: you need room for up to six tokens, then the Soul Jade, then the Moon Box. Keep a few slots free or a trip can stall.
- It is a grind. Between the random teleport and the token drop chance, collecting all six takes a while. This is normal — the Moon Box is a milestone item.
- Aggressive monsters. The Tactic monsters attack on sight and hit around level 70. Bring potions and do not go in badly under-geared.
- Bad luck happens. Token drops and the random teleport are chance-based, so some runs go faster than others.
How our version differs from classic Conquer Online
We rebuilt this quest faithfully, but a few things work differently on our server (on purpose):
- Shared maze, not a private instance. In classic CO the maze is instanced per player; here the Tactic maps are shared, so you may run into other players doing the same quest.
- The Death Tactic is not lethal. In classic CO you actually die there (and can lose items). On our server the Death Tactic's Ghost mercifully sends you back to the city and you keep your tokens — it only costs you the trip.
- More generous token drops. Because the random teleport already makes this a long quest, our Command Tokens drop more often than in classic CO.
- The reward is the Moon Box. Some versions of the original quest offer "3 Meteors OR a Moon Box" at the end; our Lonely Ghost always gives the Moon Box (the item you came for).
